"The House on Mango Street" 5 Vignettes
This assignment was given to us after we finished reading "The House on Mango Street." That truly was a life changing book. Everything is so deep and meaningful, you could read the book 20 times and 20 times you would be entertained and discover something new about the book. However, this page is about the work, not the book. After each vignette, we had a free write to do with a certain prompt that had something to do with the vignette. Once we had completed both free write packets, we had to chose our favorite 5, and rewrite those in a separate packet. After that, we had all five critiqued by the same person, and then rewrote the 5 using the advice from the peer critiques to improve our writing. Then we typed our revised free writes, and that is what we turned in to Ms. Britt.
Overall, the things that I am most proud of are the titles that I gave to my vignettes because I feel they are similar to the ones Cisneros would have used, and truly embody what the vignettes are about. Individually, I am most proud of my vignette entitled "Dandelion" because that is the piece that was most my writing style, and because I feel like the simile to the dandelion is very powerful and original. If I could improve something throughout the vignettes it would be my sentence structure and variety because I feel like I have too many run on sentences, and sentences that just lack life. The Habit of the Heart and Mind that I feel like I used the most was Refinement because every step required me to edit my vignettes.
