EM Spectrum and Sound Waves
In this chapter, we learned about the Electromagnetic Spectrum and Sound Waves. The Electromagnetic Spectrum, often times just called the EM Spectrum, is simply a chart that shows the order of waves in regards to their wavelength (in meters), their frequency (in Hertz), and the temperature of the bodies emitting the wavelength (measured in Kelvin). In order from largest to smallest is Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, Ultra Violet, X-Ray, and Gamma (remember, the smaller the wavelength, the more dangerous). You may view the EM Spectrum in one of the files below. Sound waves are in all fluids. Fluids are both liquid and gases. The human ear can hear from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. The process of hearing is an intricate procedure, and there are sounds outside the limits of the human hearing range. Infrasonic sounds are sounds that have a frequency lower than 20 Hz. Some examples of this include earthquakes and weather. Ultrasonic sounds are sounds with frequencies higher than 20,000 Hz. Dogs can hear up to 45,000 Hz, cats up to 70,000 Hz, and bats up to 100,000 Hz.
The part of this chapter that I was most proud of was that I was able to memorize the order of the EM Spectrum, and still remember the order of the different types of waves, as recorded on the chart. If I could improve something from this chapter it would be the amount of attention that I gave when we were studying the process of hearing, and the path that the sound wave goes through in the ear, because I really don't remember the major, or minor, details of that process. The Habit if the Heart and Mind that I think I used the most during this chapter was Perseverance because I feel like this is the chapter where we had to just straight up memorize the most information for our quiz, and I still scored very high on it.
