Team Banner Project (Tool Safety and Scale Drawing)
During this project in Physics, we were learning about tools; what they're called, how to use them, and the necessary safety procedures when using those tools. We were also studying scale drawing, what it is, and the steps necessary to make a drawing go from a small sketch on paper to a massive mural on a wall. In this project, we had many drawings that were nominated to be the design that would go on our Team Banner, and then we voted for our favorite. In the end, we merged the top two designs in one, and then re-scaled the final design so that it was to scale with the size that we wanted our banner to be. Then we carved the pieces of wood that would be used in the Banner. Although not everyone was part of painting and drawing the design on the wood, everyone was a part of carving, sanding, and re-painting the wood. Next we built the frame that would hold our banner together from behind. Once that was done, we screwed the painted wooden pieces onto the frame, and then proudly hung it above our class.
I am very proud of everything in this project because it really was a "team project." All the pieces and frame were carved precisely and accurately, and the drawing was correctly scaled. We all worked together in every step of the project, and it all turned out amazing. The Banner looks great hanging from our wall, and we're the only team in the entire school that has anything like that hanging from their classes. I wouldn't change any part or step of this project because it really helped unite us as a team, and everything was really fun and I learned a lot in regards to tools and scale drawing. I believe the two Habits of the Heart and Mind that I used the most were Cooperation and Refinement. I used Cooperation because every step of this project required working together and collaborating with others. I used Refinement because in every step we continued to improve whatever we were working on.
