Tableaus for Humanity
Project Description:
The first step to this project was understanding what a tableau is. A tableau is a group of models or motionless figures in a photograph, representing a scene from a story or from history. "Tableaus for Humanity" combined elements of our previous project (torture on trial) with ideas and concepts from our upcoming Festival Del Sol project. In this project, we were divided into groups of three, and then brainstormed on social phenomena that could cause serious issues in the future. My favorite dystopian short story was the one where everyone had to be equal in everything because that is a very interesting take on the issues of bullying and inequalities between genders and races. Then, we had to write a one page vignette together that somehow depicted a world in which this social phenomena was taken to the extreme to show the potential danger it could cause. Then we had to organize and shoot a tableau that also sent a message about the issue depicted in our vignette, however the tableau and vignette did not have to necessarily be connected with anything more than just the theme and message. My group decided to use the social dilemmas of excessive government control and use of technology leading to the extinction of books and dumbification of the human race.
