Basic Waves
In this chapter, we learned about the basic concepts of waves. We learned about the two types of waves and their formations, what the different parts of the waves are called, and how to draw those waves. We learned about the amplitude of a wave, which is the height or distance of the wave of from the center line. We also learned about the Crest, which is the distance between two high points on a wave, and Trough, which is the distance between two low points on a wave. The two types of waves that we learned about were Transverse and Longitudinal Waves, which are displayed in one of the documents below. In a Transverse Wave, the higher the crest, the higher and the amplitude, and likewise, the lower the crest, the lower the amplitude. We also learned how to calculate the velocity of a wave using the equation Velocity= Lambda (a Greek symbol that represents the wavelength in meters) divided by Time, along with other equations that we used for solving different types of problems.
What I am most proud of myself in this chapter is the way that I was able to use the different equations the right way in the right situations to help me solve different problems in class and on the homework worksheets with relatively few mistakes. If I could change or revise something it would be the quality of notes that I took because as I look back on them, there are some things that I still find unclear, and realize that I should have written down more information. The Habit of the Heart and Mind that I used the most during this chapter was Evidence because everything revolved around notes, and those notes provided help with evidence while trying to do the homework.
