Proposal for Movie (IR Assignment)
For our third and final IR assignment, we had to write a proposal to a movie company trying to convince them to make our novel a motion picture. First, we had to explain why our book would make a good movie. Next, we had to cast actors that we felt would be good fits for the characters. Finally, we had to tell them where the movie should be filmed and at what time. I chose to do this on The Fault in our Stars by John Green. To play Hazel Grace, the narrator and main character of the story, I decided to cast 22 year old Academy Award winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence. To play Augustus Waters, the man that Hazel falls in love with, and dies at the end of the book, I chose to cast Alexander Ludwig, from The Hunger Games. To play Peter Van Houten, the author of Hazel and Augustus' favorite book, I chose to cast Richard Griffiths, known best for his role as Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter series.
This was definitely my favorite writing assignment of the year because we had to use a great combination of structure, imagination and formality. I also really enjoyed this assignment because I believe it is one of my most complete pieces of writing, from content to structure, and everything in between. An area of growth that is visible in this piece of writing clearly is my sentence and paragraph structure. It flows smoothly without many choppy parts and follows all the guidelines. Another area of growth that is reflected in this writing are my transitional sentences. I feel like this essay has some of the best transitions that I wrote this year. A third area of growth that is visible in this essay is my ability to establish my own voice in a non-creative/report style of writing. That was probably my biggest improvement this year in my writing. One potential area of improvement is my diction. I still like if I use the more advanced vocabulary that I can understand and speak with, it will take away from the meaning and passion of the writing.
