Snapshot Comic Strip for IR
In this project, we had to chose an independent reading book to read outside of class, and I chose "The Mark of Athena" by Rick Riordan. Then we had to chose a scene from the book to draw in our comic book. The scene we chose had to mean something to us, whether it was because we could relate to what was happening in the book, we thought it was the most important scene overall, or it was just our personal favorite. After that, we had to draw our comic strip in a way that somehow represented the book or the emotions the book made us feel. I drew mine simply but accurately because I feel that that is like Riordan's writing style. He doesn't use the biggest words or write the longest sentences, but his message is loud and clear. Looking back on it, I believe we had to draw the way we did in preparation for reading "The House on Mango Street," where everyting has a deeper, hidden meaning and requires a lot of thinking.
I am most proud of the way I was able to show emotions in my drawings because, surprisingly, you can actually see what each person is feeling through their facial expressions. If I could revise something it would be the amount of drafts of the comic strip I did because if I would have done more drafts, the drawings, and project as a whole, would have come out better. The two Habits of the Heart and Mind that I believe I used the most during this project were Perseverance and Perspective. I believe I used perseverance because this whole project was drawing, and I'm not the best artist in the world. I used perspective because I had to find a way to hide a deeper meaning in the way that I drew the comic strip.
