Dia De Los Muertos Project
The Dia De Los Muertos Project was by far the longest and most elaborate project we've done so far this year. One of the things we had to do was write a script for a one act play based on the artist that we had been assigned, and my group's artist was Amy Winehouse. For our script, we wanted to focus on the positive of Winehouse's life, but of course, dabbing into the dark side of her life was inevitable. While we were writing the script, we were learning how a script is formatted, what is included in a good script, and how to make the script come alive when you perform on stage. Writing the script was a very tiresome process. It was supposed to be the entire group writing the script, but really it was just three of us that wrote everything. It was very stressful because we didn't all have the same idea as to where we wanted the script to go, but in the end we got it done, and I am proud of the final product. I am very proud of the way the script turned out because we were able to mix in both Winehouse's positive and negative parts of her life, and thus, the script had a positive spin on it, and you didn't have to focus on her life's mistakes. If I could revise something, it would have been improving the flow of the play from scene to scene. I believe I used all 7 Habits of the Heart and Mind (Compassion, Cooperation, Evidence, Perseverance, Refinement, Perspective, Mindfulness) during the course of this project. I used Compassion y being there, and being calm, for those in my group when they got stressed out or angry about something. I used Cooperation throughout the project because everything required working together. I used Evidence because all the information we used in the script, we looked up and is true. I used Perseverance by being a project manager, which required doing a little bit of everything, writing the script, and being in two plays. I used refinement when editing our play, script, and drafts for everything. I used Perspective when solving problems within our group, and I used Mindfulness when we stopped the fighting within our group.
During the Dia De Los Muertos Exhibition, we were studying the Mexican, and Central American, holiday and traditions of Dia De Los Muertos. From what we studied, we put together this exhibition. This project was by far the most stressful and headache producing project I have ever been a part of. First, we learned how the format of a script is, what goes into it, how to write stage directions and how to write the dialogue. Then we wrote our own original scripts using research we conducted of our assigned artist, and ours was Amy Winehouse. While we did that we also had to design and paint our own backdrops for our play. Once all that was complete, we had to assign actors to the roles in the scripts, and rehearse with the actors and lines for Performance Night. The two biggest things that I learned during this process were that building lights and circuits that actually work is a lot harder than it looks and that writing scripts is a lot easier than it looks.
The thing that I was most proud of from the project was our script because it was a very complete, accurate, and emotional script. It conveyed everything that we were hoping for when we were doing the research and brainstorming the 3 three scenes. Something I wish I could improve or revise was the cooperation and trust within our group, because we had a lot of conflict, and how we built the circuits that we used, because one of them broke before our second performance. Throughout this process I believe I used all 7 Habits of the Heart and Mind (Compassion, Cooperation, Evidence, Mindfulness, Perspective, Perseverance, and Refinement). I used Refinement when editing our play, and all our drafts for everything. I used Perspective when solving problems within our group, and when negotiating what was going to go into our script. Finally, I used Mindfulness when we were able to stop the fighting in our group.
