For my Junior Year Internship, I will be interning with Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, who represents California's 80th District in the California State Assembly. I will be working with her staff in their offices located in Downtown San Diego, from May 11 to June 5, 2015.
During my internship, I look forward to doing a lot of outreach and social research. For example, when her offices were trying to find out why single mothers weren't going back to school after having children. Through tireless research and outreach, they discovered that one of the main obstacles single mothers have to overcome is the cost of diapers. As a result, her offices put together several diaper drives, where they gave away diapers to single mothers who needed them. That is the kind of work I look forward to doing while interning.
I am really excited about the real world research experience that this internship will expose me to. I think that my research skills have greatly improved as high school progressed, and this will give me the opportunity to not only asses how much my research has improved, but also get that much better. I am also looking forward to the outreach and event participation that I anticipate this internship requiring. The offices are also located in Downtown San Diego, so even the location is amazing. I will be taking public transportation to and from my internship, and I am really excited because I feel that going through the iconic and suburban parts of San Diego with public transportation will give me a new perspective of the beautiful city I have grown up in.
I am extremely excited, and am honestly not nervous about anything. Internship time needs to hurry up and get here!
