"The Blood of Olympus" by Rick Riordan
There were two books that I chose to read during the second independent reading book cycle, and this comment is in response to one of those books; "The Blood of Olympus" by Rick Riordan. Originally, I had bought this book the day it was published, but for several weeks I left it sitting on my shelf without reading it because I had to prepare myself emotionally for life without Percy Jackson. (Quick side note: if you have not already, read the Percy Jackson series. There will be no part of you that will regret it. If you have already read the Percy Jackson series, but have yet to read the Heroes of Olympus series, do yourself a favor and please do so). Anyway, back to the book. The Blood of Olympus is the final installment to the Heroes of Olympus series, and after previous books had left us at literal cliff hangers, The Blood of Olympus did a fantastic job of tying together all the loose ends. I really do not want to give any spoilers away, so I will try to keep this review as vague but as detailed as possible. More so than in any of his previous books, Riordan appeals to the teenage audience through his masterful plot manipulation and incredible gift for story telling. The action and romance that make all of us readers wish we were in the world of Percy Jackson continues in this novel. Additionally, this book is the first one of the Percy Jackson series where characters, one in particular (Nico Di Angelo), experience tremendous character development. The comedic and enticing writing Riordan used in previous novels is still present, but you can feel the growth of the characters through the writing. Of course, to all of you that have read the previous Heroes of Olympus books, you know that Riordan took a huge risk with one of the primary characters. A risk that I don't think any of us expected, and one that I can relate to on a very deep level. All I will say is that that risk, at least in my opinion, really pays off. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK (and series)!!!
Golden Line:
"Legion, cunenum formate!" Reyna yelled. "Advance!"
Another cheer from Jason's right as Percy and Annabeth reunited with the forces of Camp Half-Blood.
"Greeks!" Percy yelled. "Let's, um, fight stuff!"
They yelled like banshees and charged."
